How to use a CNAME to setup domain aliasing

Setting up a CNAME for your affiliate portal allows your affiliates to access the portal through a subdomain of your choosing (e.g. affiliates.yourdomain.com).

Below we’ve set out the steps towards setting up your custom domain.

  1. First, login to your hosting provider and edit the DNS settings for the domain you have set up domain aliasing for.
  2. Create a new CNAME record with the word “affiliates”, “partners,” or something else of your choice.
  3. Point that record to the affiliate portal domain you have set up in your Branding page, when you opened your Tapfiliate account (e.g. yourcompany.tapfiliate.com).
  4. Save your DNS settings.
  5. Next, in Tapfiliate, go to your Settings > Branding page. Indicate your new custom domain (e.g. affiliates.yourcompany.com) and save.

Don’t forget

If you’re setting up a custom domain, you’ll need to set up a Facebook App for Asset sharing.

Good to know: We automatically purchase an SSL certificate for your custom domain and install that on our end. This is included with the Pro plan.

It can take up to 24 hours before the new CNAME can be accessed - so don’t worry if your new subdomain isn’t live straight away!
